More Information on Wakarusa Wave

The Wakarusa Wave is probably the premier whitewater playspot in the Kansas City area. Maybe the only playspot deep enough to do vertical tricks in the hole. Many catwheels and loops have been executed on this wave.

The wave is produced by a 4 foot ledge about a quarter of a mile from Clinton Reservoir damn. When the Corps of Engineers releases between 800 to 100 cfs, conditions are just about perfect.

Over the years the ledge has changed due to erosion. It used to be friendly at 750 cfs, but is now sticky at that level. Be very careful attempting the wave below 800cfs. Can be deadly sticky at lower levels.

See the river map below for directions.
